Privacy Policy

LightNote is a local application for Windows and Linux, with a companion app for Android, developed by NGLCZR. This policy explains how the application handles your data on all three platforms. In short: we do not collect, send or store your data on our servers.

In one sentence: your files, notes, and settings stay on your machine. LightNote has no servers that receive your content, and no telemetry, ads, or tracking.

1. Data we do NOT collect

The contents of your files, notes, code, tables, tasks, or databases.
Usage data, telemetry, analytics, or behavioral metrics.
Personally identifiable information. There is no account or sign-in in the app.

2. Data that stays on your machine

Settings and session state (recent folders, open tabs, preferences) are stored locally in %LOCALAPPDATA%\LightNote (a SQLite database). This data never leaves your computer at the app's initiative. You decide whether and how to sync anything — for example, via Git or a cloud service of your choice. On Linux, this data lives in ~/.local/share/LightNote, and the passwords you ask it to remember go to the session keyring (GNOME Keyring or KWallet). On Android, everything stays in the app's private folder on the device; uninstalling the app deletes that folder.

3. Features that access the network (under your control)

Some features communicate with external systems only when and where you direct them to. LightNote merely performs the action you request; it does not intermediate or log that traffic on our servers:

API tester (.lnh): sends the HTTP requests you define, to the addresses you choose.
SSH/SFTP (.lns) and databases (.lnc): connect to the servers you configure, with credentials kept on your machine (encrypted when you use the Secure Phrase).
AI assistants / MCP: LightNote embeds no AI model. It orchestrates the AI command-line tools you already installed. Any content sent to AI providers is done by those tools and governed by their policies, not this one.
Git sync: sends and receives your notes to and from the repository you configure (GitHub, GitLab, Gitea or your own server), with your own access.
AI providers by API and local models: when you configure an API key, what you ask the AI goes directly from your device to the provider you chose, under that provider's policy. A model running on your computer sends nothing out.
New-version notice and catalogs: the desktop app downloads, at most once a day, a small public file from lightnote.com.br to learn whether there is a new version and whether the catalogs (themes, tools, dictionaries) changed. None of your data goes with it; the request only shows up in the site's technical logs, like any visit.

4. Updates

The LightNote Core edition (Microsoft Store) is updated by the Store itself, under Microsoft's policies. The free edition, on Windows and Linux, tells you when a new version is out (through the check described above), but you download and install it yourself, from GitHub. The Android preview is also downloaded from GitHub and updated by you, by installing the new APK over the old one.

5. Security

Connection passwords and secure files (.lne) are encrypted locally with the workspace Secure Phrase (portable encryption). The phrase and keys never leave your machine and are not transmitted to anyone.

6. Android app

The Android app follows the same rules: no account, no telemetry, no ads and no servers of ours. It only asks for the permissions each feature needs:

Microphone (with a foreground service and a visible notification): only while you record a voice note; the audio becomes a file in your workspace.
Notifications: for reminders and to show a recording in progress.
Internet: for Git sync and for the features you trigger.
QR code scanning: done by the Google Play Services scanner, without the app asking for camera access; the scanned code carries only the repository address.

Git account tokens are encrypted by the Android Keystore, on the device itself. What other apps share with LightNote goes to today's note or its attachments, and only leaves the device through the sync you configured.

7. Children

LightNote is a productivity tool, is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect data from children.

8. This website

The site lightnote.com.br is hosted on third-party infrastructure (Cloudflare Pages), which may keep standard technical access logs (such as IP address) for operation and security. The site uses no tracking cookies.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. The effective date at the top indicates the current version; significant changes will be posted on this page.
