What LightNote does at length in the background — indexing a folder for search by meaning, downloading a model, loading the local model, measuring performance, recognizing the text of a PDF (OCR), cloning a repository — and what it has to say afterwards live in one place: the bell in the status bar. The number next to it counts the unread messages; it spins only while a task is in progress and stays still at rest. Click it, or press Ctrl+Shift+A (Window → Activities panel), to open the panel.
In progress. Each task has a progress bar, the count (3 of 12, or the size already downloaded, such as 1.2 GiB of 2.5 GiB) and the step it is on. Stop interrupts only that task, which shows Stopping… until it wraps up what it was in the middle of. A task requested from several places at once (the same folder indexed by the Search tab and by the AI chat) appears only once.
Messages. Warnings and errors stay here, with the level (information, warning or error), the time and, when there is something to do, a button with the action — Open AI settings when the provider rejected the key, See which when indexing left documents out. Warnings, errors and messages with an action count as unread; a routine confirmation that arrives while you are using the app (a task that finished fine) comes in already read, so the number only lights up when something needs attention. Opening the panel marks everything as read — what was new stays highlighted while it is open — and Clear deletes the messages without touching the tasks in progress. The 200 most recent are kept, and they are still there when you reopen the app. A reply to something you just asked for (nothing to do, already in progress, not found) is not routine: it counts as unread and also shows for a few seconds in the status bar.
AI sessions. At the bottom of the panel, the AI sessions link says how many AI CLI sessions are working and opens their panel (see AI sessions); the direct shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+I (AI → Sessions panel...). Session events — end of turn, hibernation, exit — also go into the messages. The system tray balloon only appears when LightNote is out of focus: while you are in the window, the message goes only to the panel, and in both cases it is recorded there.
