Compare files (diff)

Read the guideCompare two files Guide

Tools → Compare text of two files… opens both side by side (two editors) and marks the differences line by line. The comparison is read-only.

The choice is about what is compared. Compare text works for any text file — code, notes, configuration — and shows the lines that changed. Compare as table (Tools → Compare two tables…) works for .csv, .tsv, .parquet and .json and compares the records: those that exist in only one of the files, those that changed (by a key column) and the differing columns. From the file tree’s context menu, under File tools, the clicked file is already the first one; with two files selected, they are compared with each other.

The ◀ / ▶ buttons (or F8 / Shift+F8) jump to the previous/next change. From the Git panel you can also compare a file side by side with the saved version (HEAD vs. disk).
