LightNote for Android takes the workspace to your phone, with the same
core as the computer: what one writes, the other reads. It shows notes with their
diagrams and formulas drawn, edits Markdown as text (a bar above the keyboard, note
suggestions as you type [[, find and replace), opens the daily note,
gathers the Pending items of every note, shows the .lnt task
board and captures through Add to Today, voice notes, a home-screen widget and
other apps' Share. It is distributed as an APK (Android 9 or newer) in
LightNote's GitHub releases, with the certificate fingerprint published alongside so
you can check where it came from.
Bringing the computer's workspace. The bridge is Git: with the remote set up (see Backup and sync: GitHub step by step), Open on phone… shows a QR code, and on the phone Scan the QR code from the computer clones the repository as a new workspace. You can also Clone by address or Choose from a Git account (GitHub, GitLab, Gitea). If both sides change the same file, the phone keeps its version in a copy alongside, never with conflict markers inside the text. Without Git, the phone backs up with Export vault (.zip) and restores with Import vault (.zip).
What opens on the phone. Besides notes, the app opens the
.lnd custom table, review flashcards, Secure Markdown .lne
(with the Passphrase kept only in memory), the .lnq Base and the
.lnb notebook (these two read-only), code with syntax colors, CSV,
images and PDF. What only the computer runs — SQL queries, API tests, SSH
connections, AI — opens on a screen that says what the file is and shows its
text.
With other Markdown apps. Notes are plain Markdown in a folder, so
any Markdown editor on the phone can read them too: sync the folder with OneDrive,
Google Drive, Dropbox or Syncthing and open it in, for example, Obsidian
Mobile or Markor. Along that route, edit only .md files —
LightNote's own types don't open in other apps, and .lne is encrypted.
A capture (text, audio or photo) left in the Inbox folder is merged by
LightNote into the daily note, and today's note is the yyyy-mm-dd.md
file in the daily notes folder.
